# Current limitations

> Understand the current boundaries, architectural opinions, and roadmap gaps in KilatKoding so implementation expectations stay realistic.

<Warning>
  This page is intentionally direct. The goal is to help your team understand what is already strong, what is opinionated, and what still needs a substantial custom layer.

## Where KilatKoding is strongest

KilatKoding is currently strongest for:

* web SaaS built on Next.js,
* baseline auth and dashboard flows,
* simpler monthly subscription billing,
* Indonesian local payments through Midtrans or Doku,
* lightweight internal admin operations,
* waitlist, contact, blog, roadmap, and marketing pages,
* basic AI product features with usage tracking and rate limiting.

## Product boundaries you should understand

| Area                           | Current limitation                                        |
| ------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------- |
| Multi-tenant or team workspace | Not available as a finished feature |
| Payment providers | Focused on Midtrans and Doku |
| Email provider | Focused on Resend |
| Mobile app | No ready-to-use companion mobile starter yet |
| Complex marketplace logic | No split payouts, escrow, or vendor settlement built in |
| Usage-based billing | Not the primary billing model yet |
| AI billing model | Currently oriented around monthly token allowance by plan |
| Notification center            | Still roadmap                                             |
| API keys management | Still roadmap |

## Architectural opinions that affect implementation

KilatKoding currently has several important opinions:

* one user has one active subscription row,
* the plan catalog is determined server-side from config,
* admin access relies on `user_roles`, not only env values,
* payment finalization is determined by webhooks, not by the order-page redirect,
* persistent rate limiting only becomes fully available when the service role is present,
* avatars live in the Supabase Storage `avatars` bucket,
* AI usage is tracked per user and per month.

## What that means for product teams

In practice, that usually means:

* if you need per-seat billing, the schema extension will be significant,
* if you need another payment provider, you should expect a fresh integration effort,
* if you need a more advanced AI experience, the base routes exist but the full UX still needs to be built,
* if you need mobile-first delivery, this web app is a stronger foundation for backend and admin than for the final mobile experience.

## Areas that can look “almost ready” but are not finished products

These areas may feel close, but should not be treated as fully shipped:

* multi-seller marketplace flow,
* referral program,
* notification center,
* team invite and more complex roles,
* cross-feature usage metering,
* API key lifecycle management.

## When KilatKoding still makes strong sense

It remains a very strong fit when you mainly want to save time on:

* the marketing site,
* auth,
* the baseline dashboard,
* simpler billing,
* internal operations,
* Indonesian local payments,
* launch speed.

## When you should expect a larger custom layer

Expect more custom work when:

* the product is not close to a classic subscription SaaS shape,
* the core product model is organization-first or team-first,
* payment logic is unusually specific,
* your domain model matters more than the marketing, auth, and admin foundation.
